Garden Waste (Green Bin) Collections have today been suspended by Sheffield City Council and Veolia.

Green Bin Collections Suspended

Sheffield City Council have announced the temporary suspension of Green Bin collections.

The Council and their waste management contractors Veolia have taken the decision to suspend the service due to pressures caused by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Residents are asked not to put out their Green Bin until service is resumed. The Council state they will post updates on its website if they “are able to restart collections in November”.

“The ongoing collection of waste is critical and we are doing everything we can to keep the service operating as fully as possible. However, due to the threat of coronavirus and impact on public health, the black bin and clinical waste collections will be prioritised to ensure that essential services remain in operation, allowing us to keep Sheffield as clean and safe as possible.  We would like to thank residents for their patience and understanding as we face an ever changing situation”Gillian Charters, Head of Waste Management, Sheffield City Council

Black Bin and Recycling Prioritised

As of today all black bin and recycling collections are operating as normal.

If you are in a household where somebody is showing symptoms of the coronavirus and are self-isolating you should continue to use the black bin collection service as normal, with the following important exceptions:

  • Store personal waste such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths securely within disposable rubbish bags.
  • Place each bag into another bag, tie them securely and keep separate from other waste.
  • These bags should be put aside for at least 72 hours before being put in your black bin for collection.
  • Please do not take this waste to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

Household Waste Recycling Centres to remain open

All five of Sheffield’s Household Waste Recycling Centres remain open for use.

The centres are currently open 9am-5pm, seven days a week.
