Police in Sheffield issued nine separate £10,000 fines to people for organising parties over the Halloween weekend.

Lockdown Fines Issued to Halloween Parties

South Yorkshire Police had to disperse a number of Halloween parties in Sheffield this past weekend, despite the city being in Tier 3 — “Very High Alert” — lockdown restrictions.

Maximum £10,000 fixed penalty fines were issued to party organisers at three different addresses; Endcliffe Crescent, Club Garden Road and Stalker Lees Road.

“We fully appreciate how difficult the last few months have been and this current situation is incredibly frustrating for everyone, however organising house parties at a time when the infection rate is rising so rapidly is extremely irresponsible.

“Hospital admissions are continuing to increase and in order for these to slow down, we must reduce the spread of the virus between different households.”Superintendent Paul McCurry, South Yorkshire Police

Pre-Organised Parties Get £10,000 Lockdown Fines

Each of the parties were pre-arranged despite the Sheffield City Region currently being in Tier 3 of Lockdown Restrictions.

One of the gatherings had over 70 people in attendance. Additionally, at one location a woman is captured on police bodycam, in fancy dress, stating that she should currently be self-isolating.

“Now more than ever, we all need to do our bit to slow the spread of this virus, and protect our health service. I hope that this serves as a warning that where necessary, we will take action against those who show a clear disregard for the measures which are in place to protect others.”Superintendent Paul McCurry, South Yorkshire Police

Officers also attended an illegal rave in a disused Kelham Island warehouse in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Over 300 people were in attendance, which was dispersed by police. One 17 year-old male was arrested for obstructing a police officer.

Meanwhile, the large sound system was seized and enquiries are ongoing to locate the organiser.

Elsewhere, South Yorkshire Police have reported the issuing of twenty £200 fixed penalty notices after disbanding a gathering in Ingbirchworth, Barnsley.
