A new service has launched offering locally-based artist postcards direct to your door.
The Art Post sends Sheffield-based art postcards to subscribers
A new subscription service offers to send postcards displaying art by Sheffield-based creators on a monthly basis.
The Art Post is a new venture from Sheffielder Rachael Sprague, who has set up the scheme to help artists get their work in front of audiences during the pandemic and also support a charity that is close to her heart.
A proportion of profits will be donated to a mental health charity.
“I want to support anyone suffering with a serious mental illness to get the support and understanding they need.”Rachael Sprague, The Art Post Founder
Build a collection of local art for an affordable price
The Art Post offers artists the opportunity to get their work in front of new audiences, which is particularly key at a time when galleries are closed.
As well as the featured artwork, a small profile highlights the artist’s details and signposts new fans to where to find more work from the creators.
Subscribers are able to easily build up a collection of the art postcards to display in your home or create your own small coffee table-type gallery.
Of course, the postcards can be sent on — allowing subscribers to share the love of local art with friends and families around the world.
“I’ve been so impressed with the quality of the postcards, they seem really premium. I also love how much information you get about each artist.
I have even bought an original piece of art from one of the artists for my home.”Lucy, The Art Post Test Subscriber
The Art Post embraced by local artists
A number of Sheffield artists have embraced the new scheme.
Lynne Chapman, a Nether Edge-based artist, believes The Art Post is a great way of raising an artist’s profile and getting their work seen.
“Sheffield has an amazing vibrant community of artists but it doesn’t have an ethos of buying expensive real artwork and it’s really hard.”Lynne Chapman, Artist
The Art Post doesn’t charge artists to be involved in the scheme.
Subscriptions cost £4.50 for three postcards per month and can be bought via The Art Post website.
